As a community of eleven women musician-activists, The Achelois Collective focuses the power of its diverse coalition through a lens of intersectional feminism.
In order to effectively address the many injustices facing marginalized communities, we are obliged to utilize our artistic platform to not simply meet needs alone, but to also change hearts and minds.
We maintain the integrity of our mission through a commitment to these core values:
Programming works with priority to those that exist outside of the Western canon
Commissioning new works by composers identifying as women, queer and/or BIPOC
Performing at the highest levels of musical and artistic excellence
Producing a monthly educational concert series centered on women-of-note on our virtual platform
Establishing compassionate and collaborative artistic partnerships with co-conspirators within our many geographic, virtual and cultural communities
Fundraising and participating in visibility campaigns for our community co-conspirators
Developing and sharing musical and educational resources gratis on our virtual platform
Fostering a culture of social responsibility through members’ independent extra-musical volunteer work and activism
Ultimately, the Achelois Collective stands in solidarity with communities who suffer under the tyranny of a white, patriarchal and Westernized society. It is for this reason that our motto remains PROMOTE, PROVOKE, INSPIRE:
Promote and honour the incredible artistic contributions of queer, BIPOC and women artists:
Provoke our audiences to examine their world views, values and privilege with a critical eye.
Inspire a revolution of pro-active social change in our communities that leaves no room for lip service.
